Octomesh – Fixation-Free Tentacle Mesh

Octomesh – Fixation-free Tentacle Mesh for abdominal wall hernia repair (e.g. incisional, umbilical, epigastric, Spigelian).

Clinical Problem Addressed

Traditional techniques for ventral and incisional hernia repair require fixation with sutures or tacks, which increase the risk of chronic pain, local complications, and recurrences. Moreover, achieving wide defect coverage with mesh remains technically demanding, prolongs operative time, and may cause intraoperative complications.

Proposed Solution

The Octomesh Tentacle Mesh, invented by Prof. Amato, eliminates the need for fixation thanks to its fixation-free tentacular structure: eight flexible arms that anchor by friction into the tissues, ensuring broad overlap of the defect in a fast and atraumatic way.
Available in five sizes (XL, L, M, S, XS), Octomesh can be tailored to the defect and the patient’s body habitus, offering stability and ease of implantation with minimal surgical trauma.

Project Status

Octomesh is already in clinical use with positive results: low complication rate, absence of recurrences, and rapid recovery. Evidence is derived from studies on large case series with follow-up of up to 5 years.
