Biography

Prof. Giuseppe Amato
Specialist in General Surgery

Prof. Giuseppe Amato

Prof. Giuseppe Amato is a specialist in General Surgery with a career dedicated to scientific research, innovation and patient care.

He has combined his extensive clinical experience with scientific research, which, through studies of functional anatomy, pathophysiology and histology, has revealed the true causes of hernia, which had long remained unknown.

Following these scientific experiences, he was the first in the world to develop a cutting-edge concept for the treatment of abdominal hernias: the dynamic regenerative scaffold.

This vision of treatment was followed by the development of pioneering devices such as the ProFlor dynamic regenerative scaffold, the Stenting & Shielding Hernia System and the Octomesh tentacular prosthesis, which are opening up new perspectives in the repair of abdominal hernias.

Scientific Research and Advanced Technology

patient first

Every surgery is a shared journey, built on listening and transparency. My philosophy of care combines surgical precision and minimally invasive techniques to ensure safety, reduce pain, and promote a rapid recovery.

I believe in an approach that considers the patient as a whole, because surgery is not just a technical act but a step toward a better life.

For this reason, I combine my clinical expertise with ongoing scientific research and constant innovation, convinced that every patient deserves the most effective and least invasive solution possible.

Care Philosophy

The patient first, guided by scientific research

Every procedure is a shared journey, built on listening and transparency. His treatment philosophy combines surgical precision and minimally invasive techniques to ensure safety, reduce pain and promote rapid recovery.

Prof. Amato believes in an approach that looks at the person as a whole, because surgery is not just a technical act, but a step towards a better life.

For this reason, he combines his clinical experience with scientific research and constant innovation, convinced that every patient deserves the most effective and least invasive solution possible.

Professional Path

A career between advanced research, high level experimental surgery, international experience and surgical innovation

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Palermo and specialized in General Surgery in Germany where, for over a decade, worked in leading academic centers, including the Academic Hospital of the University of Frankfurt in Hanau and the Clinic of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of the University of Göttingen.

Throughout his career, has devoted my scientific work to studying the pathophysiology of the abdominal wall, focusing on the structural and functional changes that lead to hernia formation. His pioneering research was the first to uncover the true origin of inguinal hernia, identifying the key role of muscle degenerationcaused by chronic orthostatic visceral impact.

These discoveries laid the foundation for a new therapeutic paradigm: the dynamic regenerative scaffold, a concept that integrates biology and tissue engineering to promote functional regeneration of the abdominal wall. From this vision emerged innovative devices such as ProFlor, the first dynamic regenerative scaffold for inguinal hernia repair, and later the Stenting & Shielding Hernia System (S&S), a second-generation device that enables atraumatic, dissection-free hernia repair with no risk of chronic pain.

Author of numerous scientific publications and several international patents in the field of medical technology, Giuseppe Amato continues to focus on translational research and the development of advanced regenerative surgical solutions.
